Submission to PHARMAC re: blood glucose meters and test strips

Published by:

Diabetes Youth New Zealand (DYNZ) this morning sent a submission to PHARMAC regarding its recent proposal (dated 23 February 2012) to appoint a sole supplier (Pharmaco) of blood glucose meters and test strips.

In summary, DYNZ’s key concerns include:

  • Potential risks/dangers of a sole supplier arrangement
  • Small range of meters to choose from, and the loss of important features that many patients and families rely on
  • Additional burden that this change will impose on patients, their families and health professionals
  • Inability for some insulin pumps to work with the proposed new range of meters, rendering these insulin pumps (which families have paid several thousands of dollars for) useless

Here’s an awesome one from Jordy Moore:

If, like Jordy, you haven’t let diabetes hold you back, then how about putting your own video together to share with other young people and their families?
