			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>We are pleased to announce that Diabetes Youth New Zealand will be having an AGM on Saturday 13 April. We are hopeful that you will attend. While we do have a few things to discuss at the AGM, we expect to have a positive day that includes a mini-workshop on the Future of DYNZ and our project proposal of a National Walk scheduled to take place in November.</p>
<p>The AGM will be held at Diabetes NZ Auckland.  The address is 62-64 Valley Road, Mt Eden Auckland 1024 and will run from 10am to 3pm.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Diabetetes Youth New Zealand and Diabetes New Zealand are delighted to announce and congratulate the two recipients of this year&#8217;s John McLaren Youth Awards:</p>
<ul>
<li>Taylor Hamlin of Hamilton; and</li>
<li>Harriett Maire of Auckland</li>
</ul>
<p>Both will receive $1,000 to put towards their chosen pursuit. Taylor has been selected to play for the under-16 New Zealand Koru Basketball Team and will use his award to help him attend the Australian State Championships in Australia in January 2013. Harriett will use her award to help her travel to the UK in 2013 to attend an intensive and prestigious two-week long Shakespeare workshop at the Globe Theatre.</p>
<p>Once again, the judges were impressed with the high standard of all of the applications received this year, and congratulate everyone who took the time to apply.</p>
<p>Presentations will be made to Taylor and Harriett in due course.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Diabetes Youth New Zealand (DYNZ) this morning sent a submission to PHARMAC regarding its recent proposal (dated 23 February 2012) to appoint a sole supplier (Pharmaco) of blood glucose meters and test strips.</p>
<p>In summary, DYNZ&#8217;s key concerns include:</p>
<ul>
<li>Potential risks/dangers of a sole supplier arrangement</li>
<li>Small range of meters to choose from, and the loss of important features that many patients and families rely on</li>
<li>Additional burden that this change will impose on patients, their families and health professionals</li>
<li>Inability for some insulin pumps to work with the proposed new range of meters, rendering these insulin pumps (which families have paid several thousands of dollars for) useless</li>
</ul>
